I just read a good post by Dennis Kennedy published yesterday at:http://www.denniskennedy.com/blog/2009/04/nine_legal_technology_trends_for_2009_the_yea.htmlTrend #7 is what caught my eye: "E-discovery in still waters."  Mr. Kennedy rightfully notes that that law firms have "successfully resisted wide-scale changes to business as usual litigation." He also correctly points out that there are deeper trends that will prevent firms from resisting change in the long term. When I speak of legal project management, I generally have in mind the application of widely accepted project management standards, such as those promulgated by the Project Management Institute ("PMI"), to legal matters. The use of such project management standards is what distinguishes legal project management from more traditional "case management" approaches. Because most lawyers are unfamiliar with project management, they often undervalue it. My experience with most firms and legal staffing agencies is that "project manager" is just a label they slap on to someone they assign to manage part of a litigation matter (almost always discovery projects). It is with some trepidation that I am launching this blog. I've had friends and colleagues ask me in the past why I didn't have a blog. I understand why they ask. I enjoy writing on topics at the intersection of law and technology and I occasionally contribute to on-line media, such as the Technolawyer Community. My response generally has been: (1) how would I find the time and (2) what do I have to say that is sufficiently new and useful to bother spending the time if I had it?  My job requires much more than a full-time committment and...
